At-Home IPL Hair Removal: How It Actually Works and Who It Works For

by Rofi Uddin on Apr 16 2026
At-home IPL hair removal uses pulses of broad-spectrum light absorbed by melanin in the hair follicle, converting to heat that damages the follicle's ability to regrow hair. Clinical research shows at-home IPL is comparable to in-office medical IPL at 3 months, delivering 50 to 80% hair reduction across a full treatment course. It works best on dark hair against light to medium skin tones, does not work on white, gray, blonde, or red hair, and delivers permanent reduction (not permanent removal).
